WEVI – Wireless Convenience For Production

It takes more than just a cameraman with a good camera to get the perfect shot. It takes a director to let the cameraman know just how he wants the shot to look. It takes a producer to tell the director what he wants out of the shot as well. Collaboration between artists is what makes it possible to achieve a final result that everyone can be happy with. But collaboration requires everyone to see what’s going on, preferably at the same time in order to facilitate the shooting and editing process. This is one example where the WEVI wireless video transmitters come in handy.

Historically, production staff on site had to crowd around a tiny monitor and wait for the cameraman to get the shot before they could see what it looked like using video. Transmitting the images to the screen would also require the two components to be hooked up to one another via a long coil of wires and cables that could potentially cause a safety hazard. But as technology began to progress, wires have begun to be a thing of the past, and now – the entire production crew can view the video via a WEVI wireless transmitter attached to the camera itself and     HD/SD-SDI quality video viewing at the receiver end.

The WEVI (also known as CamWave) is convenient because it can relay images instantaneously to the waiting viewers. The fact that it is wireless makes it safe to have on set, since there aren’t any wires for anyone to trip on. It also increases the ability of the cameraman to move around in order to get the shot that he needs without having to wrangle with the wires attached to the camera in order to do so. Instead, he can move freely about to get the shot that he needs and respond immediately to the feedback he receives from the director and producer, who are also able to view the footage as it’s being shot.

Wireless transmission has made collaboration on film footage so much more effective than it has ever been in the past. Thanks to the development of WEVI wireless technology, the production process is streamlined and production crews are able to get the shots they need with a minimum of hassle. Access to shots that were previously too difficult to rig with cable as well as ‘confidence viewing’ by directors and producers are just two of the advantages realized by the innovation of WEVI technology.
