IDX’s ENDURA™ Series V-Mount batteries have become the preferred professional camera battery system with the implementation of premium Lithium ion cell technology, highly regarded safety features, and superior reliability. IDX, the first to introduce Lithium ion technology to the broadcast industry, fundamentally changed the way professional broadcast equipment is powered today.
V-Mount – A Standard in the Making
The V-Mount journey begins in the year 2000 with the ENDURA-50 (E-50). The E-50 battery was the world’s first battery with PowerLink™ – the ability to stack two batteries to double the capacity and camera runtimes. Sporting safety features that included over-discharge, over-charge, over-current, and high temperature protection circuitry, the E-50 set a new standard for professional Lithium ion battery safety.
Following the E-50(46Wh), larger capacity batteries, E-7 (68Wh), E-80 (82Wh) and E-10 (93Wh), were developed to address the growing number of power hungry cameras. While IDX battery users enjoyed the safety benefits and higher capacity Lithium ion batteries, IDX took a step further and developed the first of its kind Battery Management System (BMS) in 2004.
BMS tracks and records the battery usage history, enabling users and service technicians to accurately diagnose battery faults and cycle counts, among other features. This was especially helpful for stations with large fleets of batteries to efficiently manage battery usage.
Revolutionizing Professional Camera Power
In 2006, IDX manufactured the world’s first IATA compliant high-load capable Lithium ion V-Mount battery for broadcast and film cameras – the PowerCube™. Developed for Tiffen/Steadicam, the PowerCube™ handled a constant 10A draw and had abilities to power virtually all professional cameras of that time.
Shortly after, in 2007, IDX manufactured the world’s first IATA compliant high capacity Lithium ion V-Mount battery – the ENDURA ELITE. The 136Wh ENDURA ELITE featured BMS and a unique twin cartridge system that allowed users to split the battery in half for compliant air travel.
As broadcasters continued to upgrade their camera systems, high-load capable batteries were no longer a luxury but rather a necessity. In 2009, IDX addressed this change with the 10A draw capable ENDURA High Load Series – the ENDURA High Load 9 (E-HL9) and ENDURA High Load 9S (E-HL9S). The E-HL9 combined PowerCube™ and PowerLink™ technologies and as a result, the E-HL9 became the world’s first IATA compliant high-load (10A) capable battery with PowerLink™ and BMS. The ENDURA High Load Series supplemented the existing line up and became the new battery standard for high-power demanding camera systems.
Innovation with Safety and Usability in Mind
The battery innovation continued in 2012 with the introduction of the ENDURA DUO Series – the world’s first Lithium ion V-Mount battery with two built-in D-Taps and one USB power output. In addition to the D-Tap and USB power ports, the DUO Series was the first professional battery to utilize cell-cradle technology – a module that cradles individual cells to enhance the battery’s ability to endure impacts. The cell-cradle did not only provide additional impact resistance to the cells but also served as a skeleton, securing the internal components together.
The Next Generation of ENDURA Power
The ENDURA CUE Series and a new ENDURA High Load battery are the latest developments from IDX that combines superb reliability and safety at a lower cost. This Lithium ion battery range has been designed to meet the most stringent PSE regulations for electrical and mechanical safety – essential for work and travel abroad. Thanks to the latest advances made in microchip technology and improvements in battery design and build, the range provides all the benefits today’s broadcasters need at a more affordable price.
Comprehensive Advantages
To ensure varying requirements are met, there are three models in the ENDURA CUE Series and one new ENDURA High Load – ENDURA CUE-D75 (73Wh), ENDURA CUE-D95 (91Wh), ENDURA CUE-D150 (146Wh), and ENDURA High Load 10DS (96Wh). All batteries have one D-Tap DC output connector allowing peripherals to be powered direct. The worldwide standard interface and preferred V-Mount system has been refined for over a decade setting a new standard for the industry.
A discharge cut-off prevents the batteries being damaged by products without a voltage sensing shut-down mechanism. The new batteries have an enhanced cell-cradle module providing even more security and robustness compared to its predecessors. Complying with all published international standards, the new IDX batteries come with a 1 year capacity better than 70% warranty and a 2 year defects warranty.
Safety, reliability and strength of build – these are the three components that have made IDX batteries the first choice for professionals all over the world. With the new E-HL10DS and ENDURA CUE Series, you can now add extra affordability to batteries that have always been worth their money.
